White Wall Review is the Journal of Creative Writing in the Department of English at Toronto Metropolitan University. Since 1976, we have published bold and necessary fiction, poetry, and non-fiction by emerging and established writers from across North America.

Artists who find a white wall instinctively wish to cover it with their art. White Wall Review seeks to help them do just that. We welcome all voices and strive to uplift underrepresented content, stories, and truths.

* Please read the submission guidelines before sending us your work. We do not offer payment at this time.

Submission Guide (Please Read Before Submitting)

Fiction and poetry submissions are currently closed. This submission form is for nonfiction submissions and interview pitches.

White Wall Review’s 54th print issue will explore words, stories, images and experiences centered on metamorphosis. We are looking for short fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, interviews, reviews, and visual art that moves and shakes, sheds its skin and stretches, ending up somewhere very different from where it started.

Who are changemakers? How does art change the artist (as well as change the world)? Does switching languages mean switching identities? How about moving to a new place? A new relationship? A new body? In exploring the meanings of movement and change, let’s showcase writing that defies the ordinary and the status quo. Please send us your very best:

·        Nerdy deep-dives on highly specific topics

·        Clever interjections into contemporary discourse

·        Stories that interrogate norms and power structures

·        Poetry of place and migration

·        Non-traditional or non-commercial art and literature (e.g. fanfic, fables, comics, zines)

Artists who find a white wall instinctively wish to cover it with their art. White Wall Review seeks to help them do just that. We welcome all voices and strive to uplift underrepresented ideas, stories, and experiences.

Submission deadline: March 30, 2025.

For more information, see our website.

Non-Fiction:
We publish personal essays, literary essays, and experimental hybrid forms. We consider essays from 600 - 6000 words. For excerpts of forthcoming works, please make note of the publication date in your cover letter.

Interviews:
We publish interviews with writers and visual artists. These take the form of Q&As preceded by a short analytical/literary introduction to the artist’s work. If you would like to pitch us an interview, let us know: a) who the person is and what they make, b) why you think the world needs to know more about their work. For examples of the form our interviews take, please see our Interviews section on our website.
